Over the past few years the Institute Management Committee have
worked hard to keep the Institute as a thriving hub for village
activities. Below are listed some of the main
achievements.
January 2012:
Adderbury Institute has introduced a new scale of charges based on
an hourly rate
instead of per session fee. Many of our users found
the old session system of charging inflexible and the new scheme
is designed to fit more closely around the needs of our users.
January 2012:
Sandra Shallis
has been appointed as the new caretaker for Adderbury Institute.
Sandra will be pleased to help you arrange your next event at the
Institute and guide you through the booking process. As part of
Sandra’s role she will also be working with the Institute
Committee to develop a number of initiatives to add to the value
the Institute delivers to our community.
November
2010: Adderbury Institute's Management Committee now have a
licence allowing for the sale of alcohol at events in the
Institute. Permission must be granted in writing from
the committee by users. The change in licencing comes
at the same time as a number of new booking forms and terms and
conditions of hire are introduced.
June
2010: Adderbury Institute now has a brand new, modern, fully
functional and extended kitchen. Dovecote kitchens completed the
work which includes a brand new cooker suitable for catering for
large numbers, microwave, dishwasher, instant hot water boiler,
fridge freezer, catering sinks and a high quality modern look
throughout. The work was possible thanks to financial assistance
from TOE (the Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment), Cherwell
District Council, Adderbury Parish Council, Adderbury Running
Club, the Folk Club, and an anonymous donor.
May 2010: The unused
fireplace and mantelpiece in the main hall have now been removed
to reduce the hazard potential of someone injuring themselves.
January 2010: Adderbury
Institute is now licenced for the showing of films.
This change has been arranged by the Committee to allow Adderbury
Cine Club to use the Institute for their presentations.
June 2009:
The Institute Committee were pleased to report the completion of a
large number of items of work forming their £25,000 three-year
restoration project. These included:
- Replacement of
the kitchen flat-roof
- Installation
of a damp proof course
- Upgrading of
the guttering and drain pipes
- Removal of the
south chimney and re-pointing of the west chimney
- Internal
plastering/decorating and repairs to the internal dado panels
December
2008: The Institute’s
brand new heating system is now fully installed and operational.
The system includes high power heating in the main hall, with
blower heaters in the kitchen and back room, and a hot air curtain
over the front door.
